Customer Reviews

No Fancy Packaging, But Good Filters UPDATE: FYI! Watch your price on these... When I originally bought them in January 2017, they were $37.92 plus tax for a box of 6, but when I went to re-order them in August 2018, the price was jacked up to $50 and change before tax. Sooo... This year, I purchased "Aerostar Pleated Air Filter, MERV 13, 16x25x1, Pack of 6, Made in the USA" @ $37.99 instead, which--as you can see by the description--is an upgraded filter for the same price as I paid for these last year (MERV 13 vs. MERV 11).Before I purchased these, I did a lot of research as to what the different rating systems mean (MERV vs. MPR vs. DPR), who developed them, and how they compare to each other. Google it if you're curious. Very helpful. Armed with this knowledge, I purchased these filters and I'm happy with them. A few notes about the concerns of some of the other reviewers now that I've purchased these myself...1) "No markings on the filter--is this what I paid for?" - The MERV rating is very easy to miss, but it is there, so I've included a picture. (It's on the filter material, not on the frame.) Also, the brand and size can be found on the outside of the shipping box, which also doubles as a storage box for the filters, and features a label on the side where you can record the dates you've changed your filters. I've included pictures of all this, as well.My assumption about the lack of fancy packaging, color print, and copious labeling is that this is part of the reason these filters are offered at such an affordable price. I'll take it, especially since these are made in the USA. (Nobody sees the filter once it goes inside the unit, so I don't really care about the packaging. I just care that it does the job.)2) "I would've liked more folds." - The filters I received have a comparable number of folds to my old, name-brand filters. While I was looking at this, I noticed that the frame of these filters is actually sturdier than my name-brand filters on the non-airflow side, so I've also included pictures of both sides of each filter for comparison.3) "Annoying whistle." - I have not experienced this with the filters I received. I am happy with these filters, and will be purchasing again when needed. 5Good as name brand at fraction of price! Such a fantastic product and VALUE, here is side by side my old, expensive 'name brand' filter compared to these ones, I have used 2 out of my 6 pack I bought so far so I know its absolutely equivalent quality to the more expensive name brand ones ( I have allergies/sensitivities and change often)-only difference i can tell is there isn't any imprint/writing on it but size/fitting is perfect! Really great find!!!! 5Great filters. Be prepared to swap these out more ... Great filters. Be prepared to swap these out more frequently than the lesser quality filters. Given these filters have a higher than 'normal' MERV rating, they will trap more particles, which inevitably means they'll need to be replaced more often than the lower MERV rated filters. 5Great price for a well made filter, though they are undercut smaller than normal I am very happy with these filters, though they are well undercut from a nominal size. This was most likely done to save money on the manufacturing side. The will still cover your return, just not snuggly, so you'll be best getting some foam door seal. It was odd, since the 14x14x1 filters I received from AIRx were the exact same size as the ones I got from Filtersnow.com, though even those were too small to fill my returns snug, as were the washable filters I had previously, hence the foam door seal. The thing I was impressed with about the AIRx filters is that they have so many pleats - lots of surface area at a high MERV gives you good airflow with a low particle size filter! The cardboard frame is also very thick and sturdy as is the well made wire frame support around the filter media itself. 4Excellent value, effective filter These are not as bulky as the 3M filters I'd been buying, but they work well. If I didn't have pets, I might stick with the 3M. However, these do a great job at a fraction of the cost. I change my filter every few weeks due to fur, so I'm thrilled to find something effective for my allergies and inexpensive enough to change often. My allergies do not seem worse since I switched about a month ago. 5They seem to be fine with the exception of the size They seem to be fine with the exception of the size. There is some space around the filter encasing and a lot of air is not going through the filter. Not to mention when the system fan starts, the suction lifts the filter and sucks it into place and causes noise. 3They got smaller I ordered a package of these filters last year, and they worked very well. When I reordered, the actual size had been reduced (for a 14x14x1 filter) from 13-3/4 x 13-3/4 x 3/4 to 13-1/2 x 13-1/2 x 3/4, as printed on the edge of each filter. The result was unacceptably loose-fitting filters, that would slam into the frame each time the heat came on. I returned the second set and bought another brand of MERV 11 filters, that fit as expected. For their part, the Amazon page lists the actual size of the filter correctly, but I did not notice that when I simply hit the "reorder" button. They seem to be good filters, but it is important that you double-check the size when ordering. Thank you, Amazon, for making it simple to return the unwanted filters. 2Excellent filters, but check your furnace specs to avoid damage! Excellent filters - the cost to performance ratio on these is basically unheard of. No frills, no brand names, just top notch performance. Filters are put into our units and closed up to collect all the nasty stuff we don t want blown around our house. As others have said, fancy packaging means nothing. One word of caution: you probably already know that these filters have a high MERV rating of 11. This is great to grab microparticles from the air and will undoubtedly help allergy sufferers. However, a higher MERV rating means more resistance for airflow. Many furnace systems are not capable of generating the air flow required to maintain proper operating efficiency with this resistance. To illustrate, my furnace runs wonderfully with a new filter. The issue is that it begins short cycling after approximately 3-4 weeks of these filters being in place. I realize many change out filters this often (as do I), but if airflow is restricted enough to cause short cycling when the time to change the filter out, damage to the furnace is already being done. Clearly this is no fault of the filters, it s simply a symptom of a blower that s not up to the task on my unit. The solution, as much as my allergies hate me for it, is to buy filters with a lower MERV rating. It is what it is. Just a word of caution to check your furnace s specs to make sure it can handle these filters, and if your unit is aging, perhaps consider a filter with a lower MERV rating. 5Good Value, But Pick Wisely Works just like the expensive ones you get at big home improvement stores but at about half the price. If you're new to picking out filters, they come in a bevy of "efficiency" ratings (e.g. how small the particles and how well removed). However there's a trade off for a higher efficiency filter.Look at it this way: The perfect filter (allowing zero particles of the smallest size imaginable) would be a solid piece of cardboard, but that's not so good at letting air through, whereas the filter with the least resistance to air flow would be "nothing" but that's not good at removing particles. So the more efficient the filter, the more resistance to air flow, which translates into more backpressure on the supply of air, and less air flow into your house. So pick wisely (as in Indiana Jones). 5Everyone should be getting these These filters are great, just as good as the much more expensive 3M ones you buy at a local store, my HVAC guy even said the 3M are not better than these and that you are paying for the marketing and packaging. The box they ship in is also a great storage box, I just put the box in one of my closets and pull out one when its time to change my filter. They even have a thing on the side to write down when you changed the filter. 5
