Customer Reviews

I have also used a couple of drill adapters to attempt to sharpen the blade myself without great results. I'm sure the right wayI have always been torn between having the lawnmower blade sharpened at the hardware store and just buying a new blade every season. Even a new blade never seems quite sharp enough. I have also used a couple of drill adapters to attempt to sharpen the blade myself without great results. I'm sure the right way to sharpen mower blades is to buy a grinder and sharpening wheel, but who wants to do that just for lawnmower blades. This is by far the simplest option for a very reasonable price. I can only say I have sharpened 3 mulching lawnmower blades to date and they came out sharp enough to cut a piece of paper. Sharpening each blade with this tool took me about 5 minutes without any cuts or loss of fingers. Apparently you can also open the sharpener to flip the sharpening carbide teeth around once one side gets dull. Definitely worth the investment. This will be a handy tool and its so easy I may even be inclined to sharpen my blade twice a season. 4It only requires a few swipes before your blade is as good as newThis sharpener is definitely a product I will be sticking with for years to come. Not only was it cheap, but it sharpens EVERYTHING. I used it recently for my lawnmower blade and even some kitchen knives. It only requires a few swipes before your blade is as good as new. To extend the life of the sharpener, simply open it and turn around the sharpening blade. The ease of use is also great. My girlfriend and brother picked it up and moments later, they had a sharpened blade. Highly recommend this product! 5Works as promisedI sharpened my mower blade, hedge trimmers and tree trimmer with this. This sharpens one side only. I recommend that for safety purposes that you put the tool or blade in a vice, as the tools become very sharp. 5Will not work on Brush HookUpdated to from 1 to 3 stars after several monthsThis is hard to rate since the seller answered my posted question of " Will this sharpen a brush hook" with "it should".It absolutely will not sharpen a brush hook. No possible way.Added this:Worked well on clippers and scissors. It is just a bit flimsy.I also, used it,on a spade and it workedBack to originalIt is partially my fault since the post does state it will sharpen a shovel which is so much different than a brush hook, that I should have known.I have used similar tools on knives and such so I will keep this to use on clippers, scissors and similar since the shape is designed for those toolsAny tool with a single bevel on the cutting edge should work with this tool but not tools with an "axe grind" if I am using the correct term. 3not for prunersI was hoping the "garden" version of this tool would have a different design than the general purpose Knife Sharpener so that the sharpening blades would fit in pruners. They don't. You can only do the end of the pruner blade. And I couldn't even do the end at the correct angle. It's supposed to be foolproof, but there seems to be a knack to it that I didn't master. 2This is great if you have single beveled edges you want a ...Sharpens tools. This is great if you have single beveled edges you want a rough sharpening on. Unfortunately the handle blocks it from being used in place on my mulching lawnmower blade, mostly, but I could tell that before I ordered. I am considering sawing off the handle so I can use it it tight places and maybe better on my pruning shears. Works great on my Japanese sickle. For those that say the bits are not hard enough, I am not having that experience at all. Clearly shaves off metal just like any carbide bit does. Don't push too hard, use reps instead of force. Knocked off a star because the handle is pretty flimsy and if you twist or turn at all, like you sometimes need to do a bit, the plastic spererates a bit. Like it needs better placement of the screws or more of them, or stiffer plastic. It works. 4Turned my 2' Axe into a lethal weapon!I guess even a dull axe would be considered a lethal weapon, but I own an Estwing E45A Campers Axe which was not sharpened in the 10+ years I've had it. I used this thing to sharpen it for the 1st time and I was amazed at the edge it produced. Not razor-sharp, of course, but closer than I ever hoped. I'm betting I could slice a tomato with it-no joke!I don't know why people can't get it to sharpen their large blades, but shovels are not meant to have the same edge as axes, so maybe that's one reason. And lawnmower blades are a much harder metal to sharpen, as well as having a totally different edge from other blade types, so I don't see this being effective there, either. 5Does a great job of clearing rust and debrisDoes a great job of clearing rust and debris, and putting a nice uniform bevel edge on the tool. Easy to maintain your tools this way. I think it works well if you sharpen the edge from both directions also.Note: It's important to understand the limitations of a sharpening tool such as this. I think that if one is expecting a "razor edge" then it all depends on how thick and how sharp the edge was on the tool *to begin with*, ie, as shipped from the factory. For instance, pruners could be re-honed to a sharp edge, but a garden hoe or shovel - which may be 1/8" thick steel and never started out "razor sharp" - would take a long time for this tool to whittle it down to a fine edge. 4Great price, great tool for your shed.Little tool does a fantastic job! I used mine on a pair of hedge shears,my loppers, and pruners. Gave a great edge with little effort. Plan on disassembling your tool to get a professional job, but this only takes a few minutes and gives opportunity to clean and lube as well. I highly recommend this gadget to gardeners who prefer traditional tools rather than power equipment. 5Not Best for Garden Tools. Many of the reviews here are pertaining to sharpening a knife. I bought the 060 GardenSharp Tool Sharpener to sharpen garden tools. This did not work well for me. Perhaps it works fine for knives. I tried to use it to sharpen a steel edger, kind of like a shovel. I made many, many passes over and over with this tool, to little effect. This sharpener only cuts on a very narrow ridge at the edge of what you are trying to sharpen. The ridge for the sharpening blades is pretty shallow, so it covers very little surface. You cannot exert much pressure to sharpen because the blade is very small and the rest is plastic. If you do press, the plastic will begin to pull apart slightly.I got a Stanley 8 inch bastard file with a handle and that did a beautiful job sharpening the edger. I do not recommend this sharpener for garden tools and lawn mower blades. A bastard file will do a much better, easier job. This sharpener is very smooth, but this is not what is needed for garden tools where you are digging in the ground. 2
