Customer Reviews

Great stainless steel litter box for a smaller single catI'm not sure if any review I give is applicable for this pan because I'm not using it for it's intended purpose on a steam table. I'm using it as a litter box for my cat. I got a cat from the SPCA and I noticed that all the litter boxes they use are stainless steel - no plastic anywhere and they take care of hundreds of animals weekly. I looked all over Amazon for a stainless steel litter box and came up with zero - everything was plastic and they range in cost from $5 to $400. I'm not sure who is stupid or lazy enough to buy a $400 "automatic" litter box but that's another review.I bought a short term use plastic litter box and without fail the newer clumping litter glues itself to the bottom of the plastic pan which is a common complaint about plastic litter boxes.. This stainless pan arrived today and my cat has used it three times and I know already that it is far easier to remove clumping litter from this stainless pan than from my plastic pan. The size is great for a smaller, single cat (21" x 13" x 6" tall). The 6" height is nice and it avoids most litter (not all) from being tossed on the floor. I put a cat litter carpet underneath that works really well so that problem was solved. My cat is female and if you have a male, you may have "firehose" problems regardless of the material or pan height but for a smaller, single female cat, this pan works great. For me, stainless steel is far more hygienic than plastic and I can use any chemical or the hottest water available, steam or even a pressure washer and it won't bother stainless steel and it was $25, not $400. Yeah, I have to scoop poop and pee but with the clumping litter it's far easier than messing with some error prone techno-junk box that acts like an Easy Bake oven for cat poop.If we get another cat, I'll get one more of these pans. They can't break, melt or retain any odor and if you scrub them out, you could run them in a dishwasher (alone!) to sterilize them. Overall, $25 well spent and my cat agrees. 5Good for doing homemade maple syrupI bought this to cook down tree sap to make maple syrup. It worked fine on my wood stove, but I wish the metal was a little thicker as I ended up with a heat scorch ring from the stovetop burner. It does hold a lot, so that was handy. A good piece to start with if you are trying your hand at making syrup. 4Good quality and a great value!I bough these to be maple sugaring pans!! I got three and they worked so well!! I made the best syrup yet!!! I am going to get more for next year!!! Good quality and you actually can stack them and they don't stick! 5Not what I expected1. They are listed as 24 gauge steel. I have a 24 gauge steel steam pan and the steel is slightly thicker. One of them was listed incorrectly.2. When I pulled them from the Amazon Box all 3 pans were bent. Looks like they were dropped as the lip is bent some what the same. Maybe they're supposed to be bent?3. The worst part is that when I pulled them from the shipping box there was blood on the pans. Human blood I would assume. The edges are somewhat sharp and could cause a cut. But to not clean it and just ship it out to me with blood on it. Look at the pics and you can see the dried blood on the one pan. Not happy at all!!! I would ship them back but I needed them now and could not wait. 1Potentially rustsThe pan arrived with a small scratch on the bottom inside, where food/liquid would sit. I initially didn t think much of it, as I have scratches in my stainless steel kitchen sink, and never had an issue with those. I realize it is not nearly as thick as my sink, however, it is made to be used with food, so figured the scratch was not a problem. Well, after having some water in it for less than 10 minutes, the spot started to rust! Obviously, not ideal for food service. Size was perfect for what I needed, but I can t chance ordering another one and it coming with a scratch. And what happens when it s in use and a metal kitchen utensil inadvertently scratches the bottom...you d have the same issue. 1Used as litter boxes for cat rescueI love these plans, but not why you think I would! I don't cook with them, I use them as cat litter boxes. I adhere rubber get to the bottom so they don't slide in crates or in a room. The 4" sides are perfect for kittens. The litter didn't stick and is ready you scoop out. The best part however is that no bacteria can stick to them and they are readily disinfected between cats coming and going in our kitty foster program. Plastic ones get scratched readily and are harder to keep clean, plus they don't disinfect 100%. Not to mention, you buy one and it's yours for life... No need to replace likes the plastic ones. I learned this when I took on some support such foster kittens where the disease shortage through bodily fluids, mainly feces. These pans made life so much easier. I'd swap for a new one several times a day and the kittens made it through. Highly recommend for this purpose... Kitty biscuits anyone? Hee hee... Pun intended. Meow! 5These things are super handy.I really like these pans. I used them for processing my two deer. Fits perfectly under my grinder head. (STX International) used for grinding my venison and pork mix. Did 5 pound batches and worked great. Seem to be durable and will last for a long time. Also boiled two deer heads in them for European Mounts. (One at a time) Held up good. Make sure you clean immediately after boiling a deer head tho. Much easier than using a big turkey fryer pot. Can change the water easily and reheat quickly. I plan to get a couple more because they are so versatile. Get yourself a couple at least. 5Perfect for Boiling SapWe bought 2 of these for boiling our maple sap in. They are perfect for the outdoor cinder block fireplace with chimney. They heat evenly and quickly. The lip edge is great to sit right on the blocks. A really worthwhile investment for maple syrup production on a small scale. 5using as litter boxesGot as litter boxes and I'm happy with them. I know using them as litter boxes isn't the intended use but they are large and stainless steel so they work perfect for that situation. 5Good for Maple Sap EvaporatorDecided to tap a few of our Maple trees and make some Maple syrup. Well.....you need an evaporator of some sort to do that. Doing some research found that a barrel stove is a good, inexpensive way to accomplish that. Needed a couple of good stainless steel pans and these work nicely. Good gauge steel and hold up to the constant high heat well. You will find at the end of your evaporation process there will be a carbon/soot build-up on the bottom and very likely a little burned on maple on the inside of the pan. At the end of season, use oven cleaner to remove most of the carbon/soot/maple. As long as you don't boil out and burn all the maple sap, you should get many years of use from these. 5
