Most comfortable for extended use - overnight/nightlyMost earplugs you will find (and I have tried many) seem to be cone shaped and are intended to fit inside your ear canal - at least a little bit.For me, no matter which I tried, the plugs would either irritate my ears (even the super soft ones) or else they wouldn't block noise (slim fit ones).These "classic" 3M plugs are not like that. They are cylinders instead of cones. They aren't supposed to block the ear canal but are wider and shorter so they cover the entrance to the outer ear instead. For me, at least, that's much more comfortable for all night wearing.I'm a side sleeper. Some people have noted that these can stick out enough so they'll rub against the pillow, which makes quite a racket. Again, your mileage will vary, but seems to go away after you've been in bed for a minute.I have tried MANY different ear plugs. For me, these cause the least ear irritation and are generally the most comfortable. Some others have worked for a few days, but then became a problem. I've been using these for 2 weeks 5 nights a week (my neighbor's diesel truck pulls out at 4:30AM, so I need to sleep through that). I have not tried custom molded earplugs - which reviewers say are the most comfortable (and I like the idea of disposable plugs to avoid dirt/infection anyway). Of the half dozen plus I've tried, all very well reviewed, I like these. 5Very Effective EarplugsWhen I had an MRI this product was what was used by the hospital to protect the ears during the test. If you've ever had an MRI of your brain then you know how loud the machine is. I figured if the hospital chose this brand and style to protect patients hearing and they worked well in a loud MRI machine then they would probably be a good choice for shutting out sounds while I am sleeping. They block more sound than other earplugs I have used. I also like that each pair comes in it's own cardboard package which allows you to put the earplugs in a protected package when not in use. The earplugs are very comfortable too! A good buy! 5It's bad enough that men loose high frequency hearing with age ...I'm a former recording engineer who stills plays in bands and rides motorcycles.It's bad enough that men loose high frequency hearing with age but stupid not to protect yourself.I've tried a number of the reusable plugs; both single and triple baffle design.Also have used Puroform and Mack's.Number one thing is that they fit YOUR ears correctly.Just cam back from NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car racing which is the loudest single thing I have encountered.The 3M plugs were the best.I roll them between my fingers until they are about 1/4" in diameter and then quickly insert in the ear canal.They expand quickly and really block noise.The large headphone type maybe offer slightly greater attenuation but the 3M yellow foam is the best and most practical IMO.They fit well inside a full face helmet and made yesterdays flight much more relaxing as the 737 and seating near the wings was really loud for 3 hours. 5Great noise reduction; easy, sanitary travel packetsMy current neighborhood is extremely noisy. Big city noise of all sorts. Over the past year, I've tried four different brands of ear plugs.I find these 3M plugs are, by far, the best at reducing city noise (traffic, horns, sirens, thumping music). They are not particularly soft, which makes them the easiest of all to insert properly in the ear. On the other hand, the lack of softness can make them uncomfortable to wear for lengthy periods or to sleep on (i.e., directly laying your ear on a pillow). As with all of the ear plugs, you can still hear a person speak to you in the same room.I've gotten used to them, I can sleep all night with them and can sleep laying my ear directly on a pillow. Though, at times, they can still become uncomfortable. I can also re-use them 3-4 times before I need to get a new pair.I tried the following two soft foam brands (United Medicals Ear Plugs Soft Foam Earplugs (pack of 50)+Free 3d Sleep Mask and Mack's Ear Care Ultra Soft Foam Earplugs, 50 Pair). They were very soft, hard to insert properly (because they are very soft), and I never got a good enough seal to sufficiently reduce the noise. Although these two brands technically have higher noise reduction ratings than the 3M brand, I could never get a good enough seal to my ear canal to take advantage of it.I also tried the Flents (2 Pack Flents Quiet Please Noise Reducing Ear Plugs (NRR 29) - Total 100 Pairs + 2 FREE Clear Cases). These are basically the same as the 3M brand in terms of the type of foam they use, the ease of insertion, and the sound-reduction. This brand also came with a little travel case.I highly recommend the 3M Classics (and the Flents are good, too). 5The best solution for sleeping near seagullsA huge flock of seagulls (not the haircut band) moved into a building next door. I know most find them romantic but its like having a rooster/ car alarm crowing from 5 am to 11 pm. I never realized that the Hitchcock movie was so real. So I started looking for ear plugs. I tried the tapered ones but they fall out super easy and it is almost impossible to be fast enough to squeeze them down an put them in your ear. Enter the 3M classics. Somehow when you look at them they look like a 20 year old design but the fact is these work far better than other choices. They stay in my ears for 8 hours and I can get them in without the stress of rushing after squishing them. Most importantly they are amazing at blocking out the birds going crazy. 5VERY BEST EARPLUG EVER!AWESOME earplugs! I finally found the most perfect earplugs to drown out hubby's thunderous, ear-splitting, near deafening, snoring. I used to be able to buy these at the local stores where I live, but could no longer find them and had to use a lesser earplug. None of those ever came close to the 3M earplugs.Luckily, I found the 3M E-A-R Classic earplugs on Amazon, bought them and they were promptly delivered yesterday.I slept like a baby last night!!! I couldn't hear the snoring and finally got a GREAT night's sleep.These earplugs are EPA rated which I think is the key, These are made for those who work in LOUD situations; airport operations on the ramp, loud construction sites, and such. They product hearing in those situations, For me, they protect my sanity! When one can't sleep, well it makes me very unhappy,I could not be more DELIGHTED and PLEASED with these 3M E-A-R Classic Earplugs. They are the BEST. They are comfortable, easy to place in your ear and they WORK!Please, take it from me, a consumer and consider myself an aficionado when it comes to earplugs; THESE ARE THE BEST!Thank you 3M. This is truly an awesome product!!!!! I will be a customer for life, 5Tried the rest, back to this "classic"Tried lots of the newer tapered "sparkplug" styles over the years. Many were too soft and wouldn't stay put in my ear canals (larger than average, I guess?) Liked the Hearos (larger, firmer material) but local WalGrn store replaced with their house brand. Looked similar in color, but they hurt my ears. BAD. Not from too tight, but felt like a chemical burn when I took them out in the morning. Gave it a few days, but they consistently left my ear canals stinging when I took them out. Weird. Also read reviews on many others here, and notice a current trend of complaints of recent material formulation changes, resulting in poor performance and disappointments in many of the competitors. Virtually all I've tried had a 32 db rating, so I disregarded these old originals, as they only tout a 29 db rating. I wear them to sleep every night, and bore a hole out of another set to fasten to earbuds for listening/hearing protection in my day job (woodworking). This means I'm wearing ear protection a minimum of 8-14 hours out of 24, so I want the absolute best performance possible. Just received these 3m classics, figuring I'd give them a shot again, as it's been years since they were locally available.Results: Slept through a thunderstorm last night (no clue it happened), while my wife suffers lack of sleep today, (she doesn't like to wear ear plugs). Also made a new set for my earbuds in the shop today. Though rated at 29 db, they seem to block the hissy and screechy 2.5kHz through 6kHz MUCH better than any of these "new and improved" versions I've been trying to work with for years. THAT is what counts, more than any EPA NRR numbers. Bear in mind, like any personal product, they are subject to user's fit and application, but I can say for the price and performance I'm asking of them, I'll be sticking with these now. Simple, reasonably priced, and wonderfully effective for me. Very distinct difference in noise reduction from all the other brands I've tried.Highly recommended. 5Take charge of your work, study, and sleep environments with these comfortable earplugs!I volunteer as a clinical intern and one night, an elderly patient had me dig through her bag of belongings to find a pair of these earplugs. She told me she couldn't sleep without them and ordered them online, so I had to see for myself.I LOVE THEM.At the office: Our office suite is constructed in such a way that voices carry and you can hear someone on the phone even with their door closed. These are perfect for blocking out all that noise so I can focus on reading and writing.At home: My partner loves to watch TV and will often fall asleep with our TV on. My partner also likes to play video games late into the night. Even the last tick of volume on the TV would keep me awake ): Now, I can fall asleep easier and stay asleep with these in, I no longer wake up cranky, and I am much less resentful towards my partner.I was a little hesitant at first because I thought the shape of these would create an uncomfortable pressure, but these have been PERFECT. Highly recommended! 5The best ear plugs ever!These ear plugs are by far the best I have ever used. At first I wasn't sure how they would fit and function as they are not molded like some of the other ear plugs I have used in the past. However, after reading so many positive reviews I decided to give it a go. And good thing I did! I love these ear plugs! I just moved to a different state and into an apartment. I quickly realized how disruptive and quite frankly annoying the noise can be. Everyday it was something different, either lawn mowing/landscaping, barking dogs, screaming kids at the pool, people talking loud at wee hours of the night, car alarms going off randomly, and noise from a near by stadium! Constant noise! How does anyone sleep like that? These earplugs have been a life saver! As soon as I put them in, about 15 min before bedtime, I doze off and I can't hear anything! And quickly before I know it I'm in REM sleep for good! Easy to position in your ear, comfortable and can even be used more than once if kept clean. Love these. Definitely recommend. Top quality and functionality. Enjoy! 5I also find them great to use at rock concertsI use these for work applications, such as with power tools, chain saws, and other loud tasks. I also find them great to use at rock concerts. I can get up nice and close to the band, and even if I find myself smack dab in front of a PA speaker, my hearing isn't in any way stressed. They are also great for driving in my convertible at high speed. Again, I can blast the radio without hurting my eardrums, while protecting them from wind turbulence as well. Finally, they are great at nigh when my housemates are still up and about. I constantly keep a pair in the tiny 5th pocket of my Jeans. You never know! I might find myself at a rock show or other noisy environment that I didn't come prepared for.It seems other brands has "better" decibel ratings, but in my experience these work the best. I love how I can squeeze them into a tiny cylinder before inserting them into my ears. The are really effective that way. I have followed another reviewer's advice and put my unused packets into a good zip-lock bag to prevent them from drying out, but even ones that have been left sitting out for weeks don't seem to loose much in terms of flexibility. 5
