Customer Reviews

TeflonThe coating is Greblon C3+. You can google "Greblon C3+"It's plain old PTFE with some "ceramic reinforcements", not "STONEHENGE, a safe and natural stone-derived coating from Germany".Teflon pans should not cost 30+. And manufacturer should not intentionally mislead consumers with claims like "natural stone-dervived".Having said that, it's still decent quality. I'm very impressed by the even heating. So I give it 3 stars.1 year later: the bottom feels a bit scratch up even though we never used metal. The white speckles are turning yellow. I'm retiring this pan. 3Read the instructions before use & you'll be happy with your purchaseRead the instructions before use & you'll be happy with your purchase. I see WAY too many reviews on Amazon of people complaining about products they order & giving them horrible ratings because they don't read the instructions. They included them for a reason. Read them and stop being lazy.If you season the pan before each use with a little coating of oil (like the instructions advise) the pan works as advertised & fantastic. You don't need to pour a bunch of oil in the pan. Simply pour a little and use a paper towel to lightly coat the pan. For instance, I literally just used the pan and haven't season it since about 2 uses ago and it was starting to stick a little. I'm cool with it because it's my fault for not following the instructions.Great product! I'll most likely grab a larger version of this pan at some point. 5I feel duped. Just Teflon! This was advertised to sound like a natural stone product. But this is just the same a PTFE, aka Teflon. I am throwing these pans away and warning others. This is not what you think. 15 months later - watch video - STILL SATISFIED!!!!! 5 months after purchase. Do you want a non-stick pan that you will enjoy using and easy to clean? I have tried several other so called non-stick pans - all failed! The search is over. This pan performs, great size, and works! Follow the directions before using and prep by wiping the surface with a little oil oil. No experience of peeling, flaking, or food sticking. Hardy well-built pan. 5Not flat!On the one hand, this pan has the most amazing nonstick coating I've ever used. I'm not sure how long it will hold up, but for now, I really CAN cook without any oil at all and nothing sticks to it. I can even wash it in the sink afterwards with nothing but water and my hands, anything I cooked in it just rinses right off without any need for scrubbing. On the other hand, my top priority for a nonstick pan is that it is FLAT, and this one definitely is not. If you want to fry up bacon in such a way that all the fat renders out and moves away from the meat to be drained off, you're in luck. If you want to cook with oil for better browning of your food, good luck because it's all going to fall into the ring around the side. If you want to cook eggs that aren't crescent-shaped, good luck. Same with pancakes.I'm tempted to return this pan as I returned the last one that completely failed to be flat on the bottom, but the nonstick coating is just so good that I'm undecided on whether to just put up with misshapen food. If I had any idea what other pan to try next, I probably would. My last frying pan (Farberware High Performance Nonstick Aluminum 12-Inch Skillet, Red) was completely flat on the bottom, but the nonstick coating didn't even last a year.UPDATE 1/1/2018: I contacted the manufacturer and was sent a replacement pan that was slightly less bowed in the middle but still not flat. Decided it wasn't worth the fuss any more and just kept using it. Didn't matter in the end though, since my husband turned on the wrong burner on our electric stove one day a couple months later while the pan was sitting there and didn't realize it until after the non-stick coating on this one was scorched and ruined. Ended up just giving our old carbon steel frying pan another chance at building a non-stick coating, and that works great now. Apparently all it needed was 6 months of sitting in a cabinet unused. 3stone coating diminished dangerous non-stick coating mixed with your saucesThis coating is NOT supposed to diminish even with gentle washing. I did not know about it and continued to cook with sauce that covered these three nail heads exposed and microscopic coating mixed in with my food. Ozeri sent me a replacement and short like about within two months of use, the same coating on the nails were rubbed off. If you have this pan, don't think getting a replacement would resolve you already ingesting the chemical of the coating that mixed in with your food. This company should stop making this coating at the nail, other companies with stainless steel products don't need the chemical spray coating on the nail heads. 1Seems good quality. Not PTFE free, no ceramic.First Impressions:Just got this pan. First impressions out of the box are good. Pan is hefty, pretty thick which is good. Nice flat bottom and they include a nice little pan protector if you stack your pans. (Pic included...set a plate on it cuz it didn't wanna lay flat right out of the package.) Mine hang so I probably won't use it for now.Coating:Not sure about the "Stonehenge" coating. The label inside the pan says "Greblon C3" is used (not C3+). However on Greblon's site C3 isn't even listed as being ceramic reinforced. It is only listed as reinforced PTFE.Which brings me to the next thing, I don't personally care but the coating is only PFOA free, not PTFE free. If you're looking for PTFE free though, keep looking, your princess is in another castle.Aside from that the coating feels solid and looking at the edges seems fairly thick. With it being PTFE and not ceramic based though definitely avoid metal utensils like the plague. Some ceramic coatings can take them...This will not. From what I can tell there is no ceramic in the plain C3 so treat it like a normal nonstick pan. (Source: Forgot Amazon won't allow links of any kind...anyway google Greblon C3 and it is pretty easy to find their chart with the different coatings.)Build quality:Initial impressions are build quality is good. Three rivet handle should stay in place for a good long time. The silicon is comfortable to hold and solidly bonded to the handle. Page says it is heat resistant silicon but page nor manual says to what temp. So I would lean towards "Not oven safe".The bottom of the pan as received is very flat. Time will tell if it domes or not. It's fairly thick and heavy so I'm hoping it doesn't. There's a photo as well showing my test of the bottom of the pan. Had it sitting on a flat counter after the first wash. Water bead sits in the middle of the pan (or wherever you move it to) without running to the edges like it would if it was domed.Coating and outer enamel are very even and there are no strange smells or anything that I can detect.Final thoughts:Initial impressions have me satisfied with my purchase. Though I am a little disappointed that the coating does not seem to have any ceramic in it the rest of the build quality seems quite nice. I will update this review once I have used it for a few weeks.PS: For anyone wanting to know if lids fit, it's 10 1/8" Included a pic with tape measure.UPDATE: Because as my single commenter points out, first impression reviews are not the be all end all. Here is an update. It has been about 1 year and 8 months since I bought this pan. The coating is not *perfectly* nonstick anymore but it has held up better than any nonstick pan I've had before. The biggest issue is one scratch from a roommate who has been appropriately summarily flogged for using a metal utensil in my wonderful nonstick pan. Don't use metal utensils in any nonstick pan and expect them to last as long. That's just good reasoning. So downside, things will stick to that spot without a little oil or something in the pan.Eggs will also stick slightly at this point. I think the pan may have also been overheated a time or two by the same roommate because the coating in the center (where the flame is on our gas stove) is just ever so slightly more tan than the rest. Need to hide my good pans...Anyway overall, it's nearly two years later and this nonstick is pretty darn good still despite some abuse. Which is more than I can say for most of the nonsticks I've owned. 5Inside surface bubbles after less than 4 months of normal useI've had Ozeri products before and liked them a lot. This pan is a huge disappointment. After less than 4 months of us there is bubbling in multiple places across the bottom of the pan. We use it normally on the stovetop with wooden or plastic utensils (never metal), and never used it in the oven. 1Teflon coating, NOT ceramicDescription says "STONEHENGE coating made by Weilburger GmbH, Germany" but it appears Weilburger does not make a "STONEHENGE" coating. It also shows "STONEHENGE" is a registered trademark but a search of the USPTO.gov shows no registered trademark.I returned the pan. It is not what the description lead me to believe. 1Inside surface not flat. Coating description is hype.Nice looking pan but the inside was not flat. I put a little water in the pan and it formed a ring around the outside instead of pooling evenly over the entire surface. This was before the pan had ever been heated. Also the advertising for the pan is very misleading. They call the coating "stone-derived" and "inspired by nature". The sticker on the pan states that it uses a Greblon C3 coating. A little research on the Greblon website shows that C3 is a Teflon (PTFE) coating. There is no mention of stone in the coating description. I'm a little fuzzy on the connection between Teflon and nature. Ozeri seems very proud of the fact that their pan is PFOA-free. The same is true of most Teflon pans. PFOA was historically used in the process of manufacturing Teflon but its use has been mostly phased out after concerns were raised in the 1980's about possible carcinogenic effects. I will be returning this ban because it is not flat, not because of the Teflon coating. Teflon is considered safe unless heated above 500 degrees F so I will be purchasing a different brand of Teflon pan. Ozeri also offers a line of ceramic coated pans on Amazon. You have to admire the marketing team that can put together a pitch for their Stone Earth Pan that makes it sound very green and nontoxic while the description for their ceramic pans praises the fact that they are PTFE free and states At very high temperatures PTFE begins to decompose and release fumes which are documented to be lethal to birds and small pets, and which can be harmful to humans . 1
