DisappointingAfter reading numerous positive reviews, I purchased two in Twin XL. The first thing I noticed was that the underside was a smooth vinyl like material. After placing the covers on, And sleeping on them for one night, I was disappointed. I noticed that the smooth underside material causes the sheets to slip and slide all over th place during sleep movement. The covers also have a plastic like feel to them. I won t be buying any more of these. I don t need waterproof covers, so I ll stick to a better quality cotton. 2Hot & SlipperySorry, but this IS hot to sleep on. Not good in So. Nevada! It is also very slippery and although it stays on the bed, every time I move, the sheet over it slides and bunches. NOT comfortable at all. Very disappointing. Now I'm looking for another one to protect my new mattress, not cook me and one that lets the sheet stay in place when I move around. And yes, I am using older sheets that never have slid and bunched before. 1Great mattress cover! Soft, noiseless and truly waterproof. Worth the money!UPDATE: Both kids were sick with a stomach flu recently and unfortunately put our mattress cover to the ultimate test! Happy (and impressed) to say our mattress remained completely protected and the cover survived as good as new through the wash.--------------I have a brand new king sized mattress and two little kids who end up sneaking into our bed several nights a week. I wanted to make sure our mattress was thoroughly protected. This cover works perfectly! It truly is completely noiseless and is extremely soft. The sides are made of a stretchy fabric, kind of like a thick nylon, that keeps the mattress pad firmly in place. Best of all, it really does protect against leaks. I tested it by pouring water on it and all the water just beaded up, absolutely none makes it through (see picture for example). The underside of the mattress pad almost seems to consist of a rubbery material. You do not feel it at all while the mattress pad is on, but it's extremely effective. Laundering does take some extra care. I wash it separately on a warm cycle with a cool rinse, then run the extended spin cycle three times at the end. I tumble dry on low with two dry white towels to help absorb any excess water and run the dryer for about one and a half cycles. It's worth all the laundering fuss though. It does its job and comes out just as soft and effective as it was before. We're very happy! 5Marriage Saver!We recently found out that my husband is allergic to dust mites. Every night he would toss and turn and scratch the rash that we now know was a reaction to dust mites (don't judge we all have them in our beds). He wouldn't wake up but I would... over and over and over again. He's not a small man and I'm a small-ish woman so his tossing and turning was like being on the losing end of a game of "popcorn" on a trampoline.We put this on the bed last night and for the FIRST TIME IN MONTHS... maybe YEARS... He slept all night. No scratching, no tossing, no turning, no waking me up. Now if we could just get the dogs and kids to leave me alone I may yet get a full night myself! 5Not water proof.Update: I had to add a couple of stars to my review because of the amazing response I've had from this company. They read my negative review and gave a full refund for the defective product. While I am disappointed with my cover I am very impressed with the company.I had high Hope's for this protector because it seemed to have good reviews, but it doesn't work at all for what I need it too. I have a potty training toddler and sometimes she wets the bed. The pee goes right through the protector and into the mattress. It does help slightly, so that it isn't completely soaked like it would be without the protector, but it definitely isn't completely water proof and it doesn't stop my mattress from getting peed on. Looks like I'm going to have to buy a new mattress when the potty training stage is over. 3Not really waterproof!!Not waterproof! We have a ten pound dog that sometimes has small accidents and when we bought a bigger bed, we needed a new waterproof mattress pad. I wish I went with the old one we had bc this one did NOT protect our $1200 new mattress. A very small accident should not have gone through. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! 1COMPLETELY Silent, Luxuriously Soft...I've been using the mattress and pillow protectors for over 6 months now and I couldn't be happier with my purchases!I shopped around quite a bit to find the right protectors...something with no plastic feel or sound, yet still soft. I finally found them! These protectors feel like the softest fleece...so smooth and silky. And even though I can see the somewhat shiny layer of protective "plastic" on the inside, I cannot feel it or hear it on the outside. It's like an optical illusion of some sort.I have a rather expensive pillow, it has a cooling effect, and I was worried about sealing it in with a waterproof cover...but somehow, true to its word, this cover actually is breathable! My head does not sweat at all. (Well, any more than is normal for me)I can also speak on its protection capabilities. I was having coffee in bed one morning when our dog decided she wanted to play. I spilled close to a full cup of coffee on my pillow and bed. Not a drop made it through. AND there wasn't even a stain left after I washed them!I highly recommend these protectors. For both function and comfort. 5Seems good, but not slip proof. (updated)I haven't needed to check the water proofing, and don't know how well the dust mite protection works, but this seems to be a decent mattress cover for the money. It is comfortable on my Sleep Number twin XL, and is not too hot.The only complaints I have are:1) Washing per the instructions is a bit of a pain, and takes a while before everything is dry. Ultrablock recommends washing before first use. After this inital and 1 subsequent washing, per Ultrablock's recommended schedule, the soft flannel-like side is starting to look like it is degrading, trying to 'pill' in the center of the cover. Doesn't feel uncomfortable, just not sure how long it will last.2) Even when first put on the bed, it seems to fit a bit less than snug, and by the end of a week it sometimes bunches up under the sheet. I have thought of using some soft-clip sheet tensioner straps to hold it tighter from side to side, but don't know if the Ultrablock elastic skirt is strong enough for use of these straps. Maybe just a problem for Sleep Number mattresses? (But my fitted twin sheets fit well, so...)At any rate, it seems decent enough - my previous mattress covers were expensive, didn't have these issues - but didn't survive the first washing. Time will tell how well it holds up, and hope I never have to test the rater proof claims!Update: After my review, the manufacturer reached out to me and determined that the original mattress pad was possibly defective. They sent me a new one at no charge. I asked them about using the Jajaplus bed sheet securing straps sold on amazon to keep the pad taught and prevent wrinkling under the sheet (garter style closures instead of sharp tooth clamps like most sheet straps). They responded that these should work fine without damaging the pad. The new pad arrived within days of our conversation, and the Jajaplus straps have eliminated the problem with crease appearing under the sheet, so everything is great. Re-marked the rating as 5 stars because:1) The manufacturer follows user comments, showing interest in their qualkity control2) They had rapid response and resolution of a problem3) They worked with me on an unusual request about their product (use of sheet straps). 5It is not waterproof, period.This product isn't waterproof, period. That is a completely false claim. Two of them one on top of the other isn't even waterproof, water soaks right through to the next layer, which might be your mattress. I don't know how much liquid it's supposed to absorb, since that info isn't given, but it's not much. If I'm going to have to put a moving/storage bag on to protect the mattress, then this product isn't needed. I do feel ripped off due to the waterproof claim. Insanely expensive for something that doesn't do what it claims. 1Ordering one for each bedroom!Worth every penny- this saved my mattress! We have a warranty on our new mattress that is void if it is spilled on. I purchased this and a few weeks later, a significant amount of liquid was spilled, forming quite the puddle, directly on the bed sheets. By the time I realized it, I pulled the sheets off, certain the mattress must be ruined. The sheets and mattress protector were both drenched. The mattress was still perfect. I am still so shocked that it could work so well. We are talking about HOURS of liquid pooling on the sheets and this mattress protector kept the mattress perfect. I am so grateful!I would also like to add that this mattress protector doesn't "sleep warm" as others do. I've had to return some in the past that made my husband wake up in a sweat throughout the night. It also doesn't make annoying rustling sounds or anything like that. It really is invisible protection. I'm planning to order more for the other beds in our house. 5
